Life of Okami's “Strenuous Efforts”

---Steps to the Opening of The website---

13. At a Wholesale Dealer

Pre-dying and weaving of ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' are done by a method of consisitant construction press at Hakuho.

On the other hand, post-dying is done after a white texture is brought to Kanazawa or Nishijinn in Kyoto .

In other words, as to pre-dying, ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' is completed at the producing center to sell the product directly the producing center.

Because of its making process, they were thinking about a its sale by Internet.

My request to sell ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' was made timely. Just one call that I made was a great step.

But my delusion ‘ Am I really selling ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI?' still continued after a small pipe-line between prospective customers and the producing center had been realized.

To tell the truth, I was going to a dressing school on those days. I had happened to look at an information about a dressing school at the front of a library and decided to attend the school once a week. Wearing kimono was not new to me as I had learned how to wear them when young.

That dressing school was fairly honest and instructors there were kind enough to introduce a wholesale dealer in Asakusabashi where all the students of that school went to buy kimonos and other small items.

When once I thought of starting a Kimono-shop, I had a wholesale dealer in mind.

But because I had wanted to buy in the Kimono materials directly from a producing center, I didn't talk about my plan to the dealer there.

But one day when I went to the dealer, I was tempted to tell about my plan of setting- up a Kimono-shop.

I had a fear to speak it out as I didn't know how to deal with an occasion if I had been told” You might as well go ahead and buy in the materials from the producing center, not from us.” I also worried I might not be able to buy small things at the store if I had said about it.

So I asked to a young store clerk , “Is it OK if I would sell Kimonos by myself? Then she said, “ It's OK but we don't discount and make up account by cash.”

I said to myself” Oh, I see. ”Then she asked me if I had wanted to talk to the boss.

“ Oh, that's OK, no need” said I with my heart fast beating ,' What shall I do if I'd be refused to buy things from the dealer any more'.

Deputy manager in his fiftieth appeared and asked, “ What kind of shop?”

So I explained about a sale by Internet and having little experience in it. On top of it, I added that, though ‘USHIKUBI-TSUMUGI' was too high-quality to sell on website.

I kept talking quietly.

He asked me many more questions and , then, after having heard all my story, he said“

I understand. Your enthusiasm impressed me and moved my heart. We will help you with your plan. I am only a sole businessman myself, so O couldn't help you much. But I'll do my best for you.”

I was literary in open-mouthed astonishment. I didn't think I had given an impassioned speech myself.

In those days my sense of time was not the same as before. I wasn't particularly aware of time, but it sounded different. The time was not soft nor light, but condensed as it went by.
