This is a feminine and elegant homongi made using the advanced technique of makinori.
The author, Mr. Emi Ito, studied under Kako Moriguchi (1909-2008 (passed away at the age of 98), Living National Treasure and Important Intangible Cultural Property Yuzen technique. He was said to be his number one disciple. He has developed a maki-nori technique inspired by the beauty of traditional hand-painted Yuzen itome-nori and lacquer maki-e techniques, and has completed his own unique and flavorful Yuzen. Among Mr. Ito's works, this is a masterpiece.
Maki-nori is made by drying glutinous rice (mochigome), adding bran and zinc, pulverizing it into small pieces, sprinkling it onto a cloth moistened with water, and letting it set. This is a technique to dye the fabric from above.
